As I sit here in front of my television, mindlessly flipping through channels, I can’t help but think about the concept of “television alpha state hypnosis.” It’s the idea that the repetitive, mesmerizing nature of TV can put viewers into a trance-like state, making them more susceptible to advertising and other subliminal messages.

Now, I’m not one to believe in conspiracy theories or quack science. But the idea of television hypnosis is supported by some solid research. Studies have shown that the flickering, rapidly changing images on TV can alter our brainwaves, putting us into an alpha state similar to that achieved through meditation.

In this state, our brains are more relaxed and open to suggestion. This is why advertisers love to air commercials during popular prime-time shows, when audiences are most likely to be in this trance-like state. It’s also why companies will spend millions of dollars to have their products featured in popular TV shows and movies — they know that viewers in this state are more likely to remember and act on these subliminal messages.

But it’s not just advertisers who are taking advantage of this phenomenon. Politicians, religious leaders, and other influencers also use television to get their message out to the masses. They know that viewers in this alpha state are more likely to be swayed by emotional…
